MAURICE SENDAK, RIP

I was deeply saddened to hear the news that Maurice Sendak died yesterday aged 83.

In 1982 whilst working as a Catering Adviser at Glyndebourne Opera, I had the pleasure of meeting him each lunchtime during the rehearsals for Prokoviev’s L’Amour de Trois Oranges” – The Love of Three Oranges. The producer was Frank Corsaro but the set designs were done by Maurice. They were fantastic. This was a different side to his great talents.

He was a charming man and I had many amusing talks with him. It was obvious how popular he was with everyone.  His children's story “Where the Wild Ones Are” is a classic.
